This week is recycling week and this year’s theme – The Big Recycling Hunt – focuses on ‘missed capture’: the items that can be recycled but are commonly missed in the home.

In the United Kingdom, approximately 222 million tonnes of waste is generated each year. However, only 45% of household waste was recycled in 2021. Despite 89% of UK citizens being regular recyclers, more than half of us still miss opportunities to recycle common items.

At Watkins Payne, we prioritise sustainability in our company offices through our internal green team. Alongside mixed recycling and battery recycling, we have also recently introduced a pen recycling box to promote responsible disposal of pens.

Encouraging employees to participate in pen recycling not only helps reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, but promotes awareness about the importance of recycling all items and encourages a more environmentally friendly mindset.
