Watkins Payne was originally formed as a traditional partnership in 1970. Since then, the practice has steadily expanded its knowledge and expertise to offer a comprehensive building services consultancy service with two offices located within Central London and Surrey. Since 2000 Watkins Payne has greatly expanded its expertise and capability in the sustainability sector, providing WELL, NABERS UK, whole life carbon and BREEAM roles, amongst others. Engineering Innovation

We are members of the Association of Consulting Engineers, British Council for Offices and UK Green Building Council. Qualifications held by various members of staff include membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), The Institute of Engineering and Technology, Energy Institute, Institute of Mechanical Engineers, Institute of Lighting Engineers, Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering, CIBSE Certified Low Carbon Consultants, WELL Assessors, BREEAM Assessors, Fitwell Assessors, NABERS Assessors and more.

Quality

Our reputation and success is built on a philosophy of Director, Operations Director and Associate Director involvement from project inception right through to practical completion. There are currently a total of 7 Directors, Operations Directors and Associate Directors which creates a relatively high senior management to staff ratio which we consider essential in order to adhere to this ethos. This level of engineering commitment ensures appropriate standards of engineering innovation and integration of commercially viable building services solutions. The drive and enthusiasm from the senior management team maintain our relationship as pro-active members of the design team.

Certified

There has been an industry shift away from ‘design for compliance’ to a more sustainable ethos of ‘design for performance’ which has culminated in the introduction of the NABERS UK energy rating system. As an official Supporter of the scheme Watkins Payne have committed to helping to promote NABERS UK to our clients, support the upskilling of our staff to enable delivery of NABERS UK products (Design for Performance and Energy for Offices), and provide technical input to help shape the future of the scheme.

Watkins Payne can carry out NABERS UK Energy for Offices Ratings for existing buildings through our Accredited Assessors within our Building Performance team. We can also offer a NABERS UK ‘Ready’ survey to determine if your property is capable of registering a rating and if it is currently maximising its rating potential.

We are also highly experienced in all aspects of delivering the Design for Performance process for projects looking to target and promote a NABERS UK rating at the design stage. This includes the vital Independent Design Review (IDR) assessments via our IDR panel member Robert Marshall. Our experienced energy modelling team have provided DfP compliant advanced simulation modelling services for over 20 projects and our teams have achieved 4 Design Reviewed Target Ratings for our Clients to date.

Promoting sustainability

Our sustainability team provides the lead role from inception to handover on all aspects tracking the various accreditations and assessments through all RIBA Stages. We use our own bespoke trackers and dashboards to show progress and also highlight focus areas. Often we will lead separate sustainability meetings with the Client and Design Team members to progress all of the various elements and requirements thereby ensuring sustainability is given the highest priority.

“We have a responsibility to measure and reduce the environmental impact of our own operations.”

The company operates out of 2 locations London and Surrey, with over 60 employees. There are currently a total of 7 Directors, Operations Directors and Associate Directors
