Transforming a City Icon: Our Role in LSEG’s Sustainable Headquarters Redevelopment

We are delighted to announce our appointment as MEP services and sustainability consultants for the comprehensive transformation of the London Stock Exchange Group’s global headquarters at 10 Paternoster Square, working alongside Oxford Properties, Hines, M3 Consulting and Carter Gregson Grey Architects.

A Landmark Sustainable Transformation

This 245,000 sq ft redevelopment represents one of the City of London’s most significant sustainable office transformations. The project will see King Edward Court evolve into a state-of-the-art workplace that honours LSEG’s 300-year heritage while setting new standards for environmental performance.

Our team is delivering comprehensive MEP engineering solutions and sustainability strategies that target multiple prestigious certifications: BREEAM ‘Excellent’, EPC A rating, and NABERS 5* – placing this project among the UK’s most sustainable office developments.

Engineering Excellence Through Retention

Central to our sustainability approach is the retention of over 95% of the existing structural frame and façade. This strategy significantly reduces embodied carbon while presenting unique engineering challenges that our team is addressing through innovative MEP design solutions. We’re integrating modern building services within the constraints of the existing structure, ensuring optimal performance without compromising the building’s architectural integrity.

Smart Systems for Modern Workplaces

Our MEP design incorporates cutting-edge smart building technology throughout, creating an intelligent workplace that adapts to occupant needs while minimizing energy consumption. The building services strategy includes:

  • Advanced HVAC systems optimised for the retained envelope
  • Smart lighting controls with daylight harvesting
  • Enhanced ventilation strategies for improved air quality
  • Integrated BMS for real-time performance monitoring
  • Future-proofed infrastructure for emerging technologies

Enhancing Wellbeing and Amenity

The addition of landscaped balconies, terraces, and roof pavilions presents exciting opportunities for our team to create comfortable outdoor environments at height. We’re engineering these spaces with careful consideration of wind mitigation, thermal comfort, and acoustic performance, ensuring year-round usability while maintaining energy efficiency.

Our designs also support LSEG’s commitment to active commuting, with new cycle storage facilities, changing rooms and shower facilities integrated seamlessly into the building’s infrastructure.

Circular Economy in Practice

Working closely with the project team, we’re implementing circular economy principles throughout our designs. This includes:

  • Designing for disassembly and future adaptability
  • Specifying equipment and materials with high recycled content
  • Implementing water recycling systems
  • Creating strategies for operational waste minimisation

Celebrating Heritage Through Modern Engineering

One of the project’s unique aspects is the public celebration of LSEG’s market ceremonies with specialised lighting and audio-visual systems to showcase these historic traditions, while ensuring the technical infrastructure supports both ceremonial functions and daily operations.

Setting New Standards

This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering world-class MEP engineering and sustainability consultancy services. By combining technical innovation with environmental stewardship, we’re helping create a headquarters that will serve LSEG for decades to come while contributing to the City of London’s net-zero ambitions.

The transformation of King Edward Court demonstrates that historic city-centre buildings can be reimagined for the future without demolition, setting a precedent for sustainable development in conservation areas across the UK.

We look forward to sharing more details as this exciting project progresses toward its 2027 commencement date on site.
